PowerCost Lab · Protocol AC-01

Measure normal life, not a laboratory fantasy.

This protocol produces comparable air-conditioner readings without asking contributors to change how they live or perform unsafe electrical work.

01

Identify the exact unit

Record the manufacturer, model number, and rated input power from the label or manual. Do not guess the model from appearance.

02

Use an appropriate meter

Use an existing rated smart plug, circuit energy meter, or manufacturer energy monitor. Split and hard-wired systems may require a qualified electrician.

03

Measure for seven days

Reset or note the starting energy total, then measure normal use for seven complete days when possible. Do not change normal behavior to produce a cleaner result.

04

Record operating context

Capture the thermostat setpoint, broad climate context, unusual weather, room use, and whether other loads share the measured circuit.

05

Prepare private evidence

Take a clear photo or screenshot showing the energy total and period. Crop out names, account numbers, addresses, faces, and reflective surfaces.

06

Submit and save the receipt

PowerCost Lab redraws the image to remove camera metadata, grades the reading, and returns a private deletion receipt. Use it to check status or delete the reading and evidence.

Do not submit

Evidence that creates more doubt than confidence.
